Sunday Dinner for a Soldier

Simple war time romance
It's hard not to like John Hodiak in most films and here he's paired with wife Ann Baxter, a truly great actress. The story of a family of meager means investing their effort and funds in serving a soldier dinner seems simple enough, but the charm of Baxter and Hodiak together carries the film. There are also great contributions from Charles Winninger as the grandfather and younger stars you will recognize from "A Tree Grown in Brooklyn" and "It's a Wonderful Life". There are moments that are a little too cute, but overall it is a pretty enjoyable film.

Feel good movie!
This is a wonderful feel good movie... such a sweet story. So glad it's coming to DVD - can't wait to get it!

THIS SWEET MOVIE, TOUCHED MY HEART!
I just fell in love with this movie! It is a charming story about a grandfather (Charles Winninger) & his grandchildren living on a houseboat beside the ocean, that's located near an Army base.

They are a poor family, " Grandfathers" & his beautiful, eldest grandaughter (Anne Baxter), & his adorable three younger grandchildren, scrimp & save & try so very hard, to have a Wonderful Sunday dinner for one of the soldiers (John Hodiak).

( In real-life, Anne Baxter who plays the eldest grandaughter in this movie, became the future wife of John Hodiak, who also plays a part in this movie.) There is ALOT of great actors in this movie, and if you love, old black & white classic movies, you will love this beautiful & sweet story. I highly recommend it, because it will make you feel good inside!
